چکیده

A possible wave effect in the gravitational lensing phenomenon is discussed. We consider the interference of two coherent gravitational waves of slightly different frequencies from a compact binary, due to the gravitational lensing by a galaxy halo. This system shows the modulation of the wave amplitude. The lensing probability of such the phenomenon is of order 10 for a high-z source, but it may be advantageous to the observation due to the magnification of the amplitude.

Wave Effects in Gravitational Lensing of Gravitational Waves from Chirping Binaries

In the gravitational lensing of gravitational waves, the wave optics should be used instead of the geometrical optics when the wavelength λ of the gravitational waves is longer than the Schwarzschild radius of the lens mass ML. For the gravitational lensing of the chirp signals from the coalescence of the super massive black holes at the redshift zS ∼ 1 relevant to LISA, the wave effects become...

A method for the detection of gravitational waves from inspiralling compact binaries using a fast chirp transform

The Fast Chirp Transform (FCT) provides a powerful formalism for the detection of signals with variable frequency, in much the same way that the Fourier transform provides a formalism for the detection of constant frequency signals. The FCT algorithm has significant applications in the detection of gravitational waves, particularly the gravitational wave signal produced by an inspiralling compa...

Constraints on the binary evolution from chirp mass measurements

We estimate the observed distribution of chirp masses of compact object binaries for the gravitational wave detectors. The stellar binary evolution is modeled using the StarTrack population synthesis code. The distribution of the predicted ”observed” chirp masses vary with variation of different parameters describing stellar binary evolution. We estimate the sensitivity of the observed distribu...

Searching for Gravitational Radiation from Binary Black Hole Machos in the Galactic Halo

The Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) is one of a new generation of detectors of gravitational radiation. The existence of gravitational radiation was first predicted by Einstein in 1916, however gravity waves have not yet been directly observed. One source of gravitation radiation is binary inspiral. Two compact bodies orbiting each other, such as a pair of black holes...

The gravitational wave signal from the Galactic disk population of binaries containing two compact objects

We review the properties of Galactic binaries containing two compact objects, as derived by means of population synthesis. Using this information we calculate the gravitational wave signal of these binaries. At frequencies below f <∼ 2 mHz the double white dwarf population forms an unresolved background for the low-frequency gravitational wave detector LISA. Above this limit some few thousand d...
